Nowadays, there are many ways to promote your film. In the communication campaign of cinematographic productions, social networks are now part of the game. Indeed, it often happens that the actors or even the producers of a film publish on their social networks images or even the trailer of their new film a few time before the film is released in the cinema, in order to promote it and encourage Internet surfers to go to see it once it's out. Until now, nothing new.
However, today, we are going to share with you a very original promotion of a French film in 2014 which made a lot of noise. Indeed, this promotion caused a lot of attention in a way that was unexpected to say the least ... even illegal.
In 2014, Pathé and the Darewin communication agency, created a new experience to promote the release of the movie “Un illustre inconnu” with the actor Matthieu Kassovitz : Forty french influential personalities including Louis Lepron, the young editor-in-chief of the media Konbini , found themselves caught in the game of identity theft like the pitch of the film, where the main character spends his time imitating the people he meets. What happened is that each influencers received a request to add a friend on Facebook one morning. Worrying: the person in question had the same first and last name as them, displayed the same profile photo and the same personal information ... even the same friends. The reaction was up to the scenario.
Exasperated, the trapped influencers talked about it on social networks, denounced the maneuver and reported and blocked the profiles ... which disappeared soon after. A few minutes later, the trapped personalities all received a personalized film trailer for each of them, then an invitation to go see the preview of the movie.
As much to say that the influencers were reassured to see that all this was just a set up to promote a new film. In any case, one thing is certain: this very scary promotion was a marketing success since all the influencers spoke at length about their strange experience on social networks, which intrigued a lot of Internet surfers and allowed the film to be talked about. However, upon discovering their cloned profile and their usurped identity, some influencers confessed to having regretted not having been informed of the operation before and not having participated in the staging, rather than having been forced to do it...
